Dr Ruchika asked:

Parkinson’s disease is a degenerative disease of the brain that often impairs motor skills, speech, and other functions. It belongs to a group of conditions called movement disorders and it typically affects movement and thus the day to day functioning of the patient.

Rehabilitation has an important impact on reducing functional limitations and disability and promoting optimal health in a patient with Parkinson’s disease. The enhancement of quality of life is the most important outcome for individuals with a chronic Parkinsonism.

Restorative rehabilitation or the rehabilitation aimed at restoring the functions is focused on improvement of strength, Range of motion (ROM), functional performance, endurance and so forth using remedial and compensatory training strategies.

Individuals from Parkinson’s also benefit a lot from “Functional maintenance programs”. These programs are designed to manage the effects of progressive disease. Strategies are developed to prevent or slow decline of function, and promote regular exercise, good health, and self management skills.

For optimal management of a Parkinson’s patient a coordinated team of health professionals, including the physician, nurse, physical therapist, occupational therapist and speech/ language pathologist work in close unison. Consultation to other specialists like nutritionist, gastroenterologist, urologist, pulmonologist, is also done, if need be. This dedicated team has a focus on long range planning which is critical for effective management.

The patient and the family member are considered the key members of the team in the rehabilitation of a parkinson’s patient who are fully involved in all aspects of the treatment planning process.

Children’s version of Parkinsons’s disease?

January 25, 2010 By: admin Category: parkinsons Comments Off

(-Concrete Butterfly-) asked:

My sister, 2 years old, suffers from Trembling hands and arms, constant falling, propulsive gait, dragging of right leg and foot, and loss of balance. I believe she might have something similar to Parkinsons’s disease–only she’s too young to have that particular disease, as it only affects elders and not children. Is there a health condition that is similar to Parkinsons’s disease?
Let me clarify myself…Please NAME a few? Thank you.

Chelation Therapy is Proven to Prevent and Treat Heart Disease and Certain Types of Cancer

January 20, 2010 By: admin Category: parkinsons Comments Off

Raphael asked:

On a daily basis, your body comes in contact with harmful toxins that can cause numerous health challenges and a decreased quality of life. Heavy metals are in our environment and nothing can be done to change that. We can limit the amount of new heavy-metal toxins entering our planet (although we haven’t done anything about it yet), but the levels that already exist cannot be removed. And when heavy-metal toxins are in the environment, they are in your bodies, with a potentially devastating impact on your health.

They’re in your food, in your water, your air, your place of work and in your home – you cannot escape them! Lead, mercury, aluminum, cadmium, arsenic, and nickel are in your food, water and air, which means they also are in your body.

So, what is the solution?

Chelation Therapy is the introduction of naturally occurring or synthetic organic chemicals into the human body in order to facilitate chemical reactions, which lead to the discharge of poisonous metals from the body and the rearrangement of essential metals in the body for the promotion of life’s chemical reactions. Chelation Therapy is an extremely useful treatment and preventive measure for at least 80% of peripheral circulation problems

Are Toxic Heavy Metals a serious health problem?

Toxic Heavy Metals have been linked to many health problems and diseases that plaque us today. These ailments that toxic heavy metals have been implicated with include degenerative diseases like Alzheimers, Parkinsons and ALS. Circulatory problems like hardening of the arteries, atherilsclerosis, athrosclerosis, Angina, Peripheral Neuropathies, High blood pressure and blocked arteries. Many toxic heavy metals such as Mercury are neurotoxins that disrupt and change electrical pathways in your body helping to cause many neurological disorders, dementia and even death.

Is chelation therapy new?

Chelation therapy is not new. It’s been around for a long time. EDTA chelation’s main ingredient, a synthetic amino acid, very similar to four molecules of vinegar—was synthesized in Germany in 1935. It was used during WWII for detoxifying lead from the men who worked in battery factories or painted ships with lead-based paints. Thirty years ago, Dr. Garry Gordon established the first intravenous chelation protocol. And today, EDTA is the standard FDA approved treatment for lead, mercury, aluminum and cadmium poisoning. The American Heart Association also recognizes chelation therapy as a treatment for heavy metal poisoning.

Can chelation prevent impotence, heart disease, rheumatoid and osteoarthritis and even cancer?

Chelation authorities now say that the therapy’s beneficial effects on blood circulation may also have positive effects on impotence, intermittent claudication, and vision problems like age-related macular degeneration and glaucoma. And new research suggests that removing heavy metals through chelation can treat and/or prevent many serious diseases, including pancreatitis, gout, both rheumatoid and osteoarthritis, chronic fatigue, irritable bowel, Alzheimer’s disease, multiple sclerosis-even cancer. Breakthroughs in Healthcare, Hope or Hype?

January 11, 2010 By: admin Category: parkinsons Comments Off

Dr. Edward Beck asked:

Antibiotics will make infectious diseases obsolete. Vaccines will prevent childhood illness. Help raise money because a cure is right over the horizon. Modern medicine is the reason we are living longer. Gene manipulation and stem cell research will soon be the answer to diseases like Parkinsons, Alzheimers and even cancer. Do you recognize any of these statements?

It’s what I call the New Tide Syndrome. Every year, Tide promises us that the detergent will clean our dirty clothes even better that last year.  Weather you believe your clothes are much cleaner or not is up to you. I believe this is mostly marketing hype and the parallels in the Healthcare system are striking in my opinion.  The American healthcare system will now be referred to by me as the “sickcare system”, since this is more acurate. Over 25 Billion dollars per year are spent to advertise to Americans and their trusted doctors. Every year people are promised better results and more health and yet the statistics do not show this as true. Conflict of interest relationships with the FDA and Big Pharma are common place even after they are uncovered. 100,000 lives are lost in the U.S. every year due to hospital errors and millions are harmed by medication errors. This does not mean that people are intentionally injuring patients. Obviously the large majority of health providers have good intentions and yet the medical industrial complex fails to inspire people to become truly healthy.

The World Health Organization has a definition of health. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Health

Of course most Americans are unaware of this probably, which is one of the reasons we accept the dismal system that we have.

The United Nations keeps track of Infant Mortality. The infant mortality rate (IMR) is the number of deaths of infants under one year old in a given year per 1,000 live births in the same year. This rate is often used as an indicator of the level of health in a country.  Would you think that America was number one on the list and babies would be safe here. We are currently 45 on the list from best to worst.  You can verify this on the CIA WORLD FACT BOOK or even as easily as checking Wikipedia.

We are also told that we live the longest which is another fallacy. There are groups of people around the world that do live longer on average and their quality of health in later years is astounding. Each group that is studied has some definite trends that we can all learn from. Unfortunately, this has nothing to do with modern medicine, as many of them hardly use our supposed breakthroughs. If you would like some of the books and research, feel free to contact me for the sources. The good news is that creating health is not expensive and many of the answers are simple.

I know that this blog will create some opposition but I believe the facts are more important than arguements, it is time for health providers to stand up, unite and make real health changes for Americans.

It does not come in a bottle or a pill and it never will. True health comes from within and educating yourself and taking control of your own body and mind.

Create a healthy day,

Dr. Edward Beck

How come my cat’s head sometimes twitches uncontrollably?

January 03, 2010 By: admin Category: parkinsons Comments Off

parkinsons
Adam Weisshaupt asked:

It’s very strange. Not all the time, but sometimes my cat’s head seems to twitch and shake uncontrollably for a period of a couple minutes. I hate to see it happen to him and I wish I could help, but I don’t know what’s wrong with him. He’s an old cat, 14, and he has had a history of ear infections and I believe that his brand of cat is known for ear problems. I don’t know what his breed is but he’s a plain white short-haired cat. I say this because I notice that he sometimes scratches his ear when it happens. It might be a possibility or it might be Parkinsons but I’m not exactly sure if cats can have that. If anyone knows or has an idea, don’t hesitate to answer please.
