my father who needs 24/7 care gets some outside help but his 2 daughters (one who is me) are the only ones who help or spend any time with him. And when this was mentioned to my father one day about his son’s helping out, he just looked at me like I had lost my mind. Is this an old school thing or what? Does he think that only women should do this?

      there is a good chance he does, perhaps you should look into hiring someone who can provide him with 24/7 care so you can live your life. there are many people who make careers out of being caregivers.
