What to Look for in Choosing a Good Health Insurance Plan

February 09, 2010 By: admin Category: parkinsons

Debbie Parkinson asked:

Have you thought about what to consider when choosing a good health insurance plan?  We are faced with so many different options that we often find it difficult to know just what to look for. Keep in mind that the number one thing to remember as you begin your search for a good health insurance plan is this: never base your decision solely on what your monthly premium will cost. You first of all need to read the details of the health insurance plan you are considering.  This includes what your health insurance plan does and does not cover. Also you need to consider the in-network versus the out-of-network coverage as well as the costs of co-payment, deductibles, and coverage caps.

You first want to gain an understanding of the particular health insurance needs of your family. Ask yourself these questions: are you in need of coverage for just yourself, yourself and your spouse, yourself and just one child, or are you in need of a family health insurance plan? After making this determination see if you can assess the health needs of all those folks you intend to include in your health insurance plan.  This might be a wee bit trickier. These are a few questions you may need to ask: are you and the other folks you plan to include with your health insurance plan basically in good health? Do you know of any pre-existing conditions? Are any people you are considering covering with your health insurance plan ever in need of access to medical specialists or medical institutions?

If you know the answers to these questions you will then have a good starting point from which to decide what types of health insurance plans to try to target in your search for a good health insurance plan. Your next step will be considering your options. Are you being covered through a group insurance plan offered by your employer? If so, your health insurance options may be limited to the health insurance coverage that your company is offering. This may or may not make your decision easier. At the very minimum, you want to make sure you understand the difference between an indemnity plan and what’s called a managed care plan and its variations. These are the two basic types of health insurance plans that are offered today.

The first plan we will look at called an indemnity plan, basically offers those folks participating the freedom to choose where and when they will seek medical assistance. This freedom usually comes at higher out-of-pocket costs. However for many folks this is a fair trade off. The next plan called managed care plans, places many more restrictions on the participants and requires folks to use the medical professionals and medical institutions that make up the plan’s network. Folks participating in these managed care plans often need pre-approval for medical services that fall outside basic preventative care. The costs of healthcare in managed care services are usually lower than those found with indemnity plans. And for those folks and families who are 1) basically healthy, 2) don’t have a preference as to the doctor they see, and 3) are all in a tighter budget, managed care plans may be the better choice. This is a very basic look at the types of health insurance plans available. Further due diligence is advised.

Once you have chosen the type of health insurance plan, do you feel comfortable in choosing the right health insurance company? Many companies today you’ll  find, offer health insurance. These companies range from the well known corporate players that have been around for years, to the smaller, independent companies. As is the case when considering any major purchase, make sure you provide your due diligence in your research before arriving at a final decision. Talk to your friends, research on the Internet, and try to understand what you need to do when filing a health insurance claim.  This will provide you with the information you will find you need to assist you in choosing the correct health insurance company.

As always, seek the advice of a professional financial planner before deciding on a course of action that you do not fully understand.

Dr Ruchika asked:

Parkinson’s disease is a degenerative disease of the brain that often impairs motor skills, speech, and other functions. It belongs to a group of conditions called movement disorders and it typically affects movement and thus the day to day functioning of the patient.

Rehabilitation has an important impact on reducing functional limitations and disability and promoting optimal health in a patient with Parkinson’s disease. The enhancement of quality of life is the most important outcome for individuals with a chronic Parkinsonism.

Restorative rehabilitation or the rehabilitation aimed at restoring the functions is focused on improvement of strength, Range of motion (ROM), functional performance, endurance and so forth using remedial and compensatory training strategies.

Individuals from Parkinson’s also benefit a lot from “Functional maintenance programs”. These programs are designed to manage the effects of progressive disease. Strategies are developed to prevent or slow decline of function, and promote regular exercise, good health, and self management skills.

For optimal management of a Parkinson’s patient a coordinated team of health professionals, including the physician, nurse, physical therapist, occupational therapist and speech/ language pathologist work in close unison. Consultation to other specialists like nutritionist, gastroenterologist, urologist, pulmonologist, is also done, if need be. This dedicated team has a focus on long range planning which is critical for effective management.

The patient and the family member are considered the key members of the team in the rehabilitation of a parkinson’s patient who are fully involved in all aspects of the treatment planning process.

(-Concrete Butterfly-) asked:

My sister, 2 years old, suffers from Trembling hands and arms, constant falling, propulsive gait, dragging of right leg and foot, and loss of balance. I believe she might have something similar to Parkinsons’s disease–only she’s too young to have that particular disease, as it only affects elders and not children. Is there a health condition that is similar to Parkinsons’s disease?
Let me clarify myself…Please NAME a few? Thank you.

Chelation Therapy is Proven to Prevent and Treat Heart Disease and Certain Types of Cancer

January 20, 2010 By: admin Category: parkinsons

Raphael asked:

On a daily basis, your body comes in contact with harmful toxins that can cause numerous health challenges and a decreased quality of life. Heavy metals are in our environment and nothing can be done to change that. We can limit the amount of new heavy-metal toxins entering our planet (although we haven’t done anything about it yet), but the levels that already exist cannot be removed. And when heavy-metal toxins are in the environment, they are in your bodies, with a potentially devastating impact on your health.

They’re in your food, in your water, your air, your place of work and in your home – you cannot escape them! Lead, mercury, aluminum, cadmium, arsenic, and nickel are in your food, water and air, which means they also are in your body.

So, what is the solution?

Chelation Therapy is the introduction of naturally occurring or synthetic organic chemicals into the human body in order to facilitate chemical reactions, which lead to the discharge of poisonous metals from the body and the rearrangement of essential metals in the body for the promotion of life’s chemical reactions. Chelation Therapy is an extremely useful treatment and preventive measure for at least 80% of peripheral circulation problems

Are Toxic Heavy Metals a serious health problem?

Toxic Heavy Metals have been linked to many health problems and diseases that plaque us today. These ailments that toxic heavy metals have been implicated with include degenerative diseases like Alzheimers, Parkinsons and ALS. Circulatory problems like hardening of the arteries, atherilsclerosis, athrosclerosis, Angina, Peripheral Neuropathies, High blood pressure and blocked arteries. Many toxic heavy metals such as Mercury are neurotoxins that disrupt and change electrical pathways in your body helping to cause many neurological disorders, dementia and even death.

Is chelation therapy new?

Chelation therapy is not new. It’s been around for a long time. EDTA chelation’s main ingredient, a synthetic amino acid, very similar to four molecules of vinegar—was synthesized in Germany in 1935. It was used during WWII for detoxifying lead from the men who worked in battery factories or painted ships with lead-based paints. Thirty years ago, Dr. Garry Gordon established the first intravenous chelation protocol. And today, EDTA is the standard FDA approved treatment for lead, mercury, aluminum and cadmium poisoning. The American Heart Association also recognizes chelation therapy as a treatment for heavy metal poisoning.

Can chelation prevent impotence, heart disease, rheumatoid and osteoarthritis and even cancer?

Chelation authorities now say that the therapy’s beneficial effects on blood circulation may also have positive effects on impotence, intermittent claudication, and vision problems like age-related macular degeneration and glaucoma. And new research suggests that removing heavy metals through chelation can treat and/or prevent many serious diseases, including pancreatitis, gout, both rheumatoid and osteoarthritis, chronic fatigue, irritable bowel, Alzheimer’s disease, multiple sclerosis-even cancer.
